JAKARTA: PT Indosat Ooredoo and PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia recently announced a deal valued at USD6 billion to merge into a new entity in the country, PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. The merger not only sets PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison as Indonesia’s second-biggest telecommunications network provider but also will introduce a fresh wave in the industry where the demand for digital platforms and services is expected to increase in the country.

Forest Interactive, a Malaysia-based tech company that develops scalable mobile platforms, welcomes this merger between Qatar-based global communications company Ooredoo QPSC and Hong Kong-based multinational conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings Limited. Yoseph Wijaya, Head of Product at Forest Interactive, said this merger will ensure better efficiency and create a competitive ecosystem, driving the country’s telecommunications industry forward at a faster pace.

“This merger includes the development of infrastructure. It is predicted that this advancement will increase connectivity and ensure better reach of technology networks, hence accelerating the digital transformation. Besides that, collaborations between key industry players such as this merger will create healthier competition in the industry.”

Yoseph further explained that the demand for digital platforms and services in Indonesia will also witness positive growth. “The tighter the competition between mobile operators to provide better services, the higher the demand for digital platforms and services. This means it will potentially increase strategic partnerships among content providers, OTT app developers, and publishers,” continued Yoseph.

Previously, Indosat Ooredoo launched IMGaming, a brand-new gaming platform to provide seamless gaming experiences and fulfil the gaming needs of IM3 Ooredoo users. On the other hand, Tri also launched H3RO, a platform for gaming vouchers.

Meanwhile, Forest Interactive launched Digital Voucher Platform (DVP) last year. The comprehensive one-stop portal for digital vouchers on digital goods offers mobile operators the opportunity to create a new revenue stream and increase consumer loyalty through fully customizable branding.

The development of the company’s digital platform is backed with more than 15 years of experience in providing telco-driven solutions to more than 90 mobile operators and over 100 content providers worldwide, connecting more than 1 billion subscribers. With more than 450 cloud servers located in multiple continents, Forest Interactive is committed to creating world-class innovations for its partners, aiming to bridge the gap between mobile subscribers, operators, and content providers.
