#ForestCares: Lunar New Year Campaign Provides Festive Care and Relief to Underprivileged Communities

KUALA LUMPUR – Forest Interactive continues to refresh its festive celebrations this year — this time, by spreading joy, offering care, and resolving challenges faced by the less fortunate during Lunar New Year.

With the hopes of raising awareness to those that may not have the means to enjoy reunion feasts with their families, especially in local communities where livelihoods may have been affected by job loss and recent floods, Forest Interactive organized a Lunar New Year CSR initiative, in tandem with its internal celebrations.

#ForestCares: Lunar New Year campaign is an internal fundraising drive initiated to raise donation from talents to help bring a smile to faces impacted by Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO). Additionally, Malaysia-based talents also showed their support by selling their pre-loved items internally to raise funds.

The month-long campaign was carried out during February, and proceeds were donated to Liga Rakyat Demokratik (LRD), which in turn distributed food and essentials to affected families in the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur areas.

On top of that, talents were also encouraged to join internal Lunar Quiz Nights as part of the employee engagement initiative. For each question that talents answered correctly, Forest Interactive donated MYR10 to the campaign. The employees were able to raise a total of MYR 3,371 for all three initiatives.

“There’s no question that the rollout of lockdowns has affected everyone, especially the underprivileged and those struck by calamities. It is important for us to come together and lend a helping hand to them during festive celebrations where the great divide becomes more apparent as the privileged get to adjust easily while others cannot even provide for their families, let alone having food on the table during the Lunar New Year,” said Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR at Forest Interactive, who oversaw the execution of this year’s Lunar New Year CSR initiative. “We are grateful for the support from everyone involved in this #ForestCares campaign, and we would like to thank Liga Rakyat Demokratik for collaborating with us on this initiative.”

The sharp increase in the number of families and individuals in need of assistance has prompted Forest Interactive to create more campaigns aimed at easing the burden and hardships faced by the local communities. Forest Interactive donated all proceeds to LRD, which were then utilized to purchase foods and essentials that were distributed to the communities the NGO serviced.

“A little goes a long way. All this while, most initiatives were crowdfunded and donated by the public. If organizations such as Forest Interactive help Liga Rakyat Demokratik, we could widen our areas of recipients with more communities and families will benefit from this joint venture,” said Azira Aziz, Funding Coordinator at Liga Rakyat Demokratik, who is also a lawyer by profession.

“Our #ForestCares initiative is an excellent platform for our talents to actively partake in charitable efforts and contribute positively to society since some of them want to help but don’t know where to begin. It is wonderful to see so many of our talents commit to this initiative, and with the funds raised during the #ForestCares: Lunar New Year campaign, we are confident that #ForestCares will continue to make a meaningful impact on deserving causes in society. I am very honored to be surrounded by professionals who feel for the masses, who share the company’s value of giving back,” added Sheena.

Forest Interactive has organized a number of charitable endeavors as part of its annual CSR campaigns. Last year, #ForestCares extended a helping hand to the Temuan indigenous community at Desa Temuan in the mid of the pandemic crisis. Apart from #ForestCares, Forest Interactive has also been supporting the Street Feeders of KL (SFOKL) through #CAN Feed The Hungry since 2018 in its charity efforts to distribute food and basic necessities to the homeless in the city center.
