Anastasia Suhandi, Marketing & Business Development Senior Executive at Forest Interactive Indonesia recently spoke about her experience pursuing a degree in Business Administration at a webinar organized by Atma Jaya University. Passionate about finding the right career path after graduating university, she also shared how her Business Administration degree has helped her land a career in a company with operations in over 30 countries. She talked in a webinar hosted by Atma Jaya University on 2 September 2021.
Obtaining a qualification in business administration gains more popularity in Indonesia these days. The now in-demand course was previously offered for graduate studies. Today, the programme is also available for undergraduate students to pursue.
At the webinar, which was hosted virtually on Sep 2, 2021, Anastasia shared that she was an active student not only during her academic lessons but also in her involvement with the community-focused activities. She joined a few student clubs to continuously hone her soft skills through various students’ activities.
“University is a great place for you to learn new skills and widen your knowledge beyond classrooms. I strongly encourage you to make the most of your time as a student,” said Anastasia.
Representing Atma Jaya University, Anastasia also mentioned how her participation in a student exchange program to Germany has been a valuable addition to her track record. During her time in Germany, she learned to be more open-minded and appreciate diversity. Furthermore, she also learned how to communicate effectively with people with different backgrounds where she practiced how to properly express her thoughts and opinion.
Towards her final remark at the webinar, Anastasia shared a to-do list as a guidance to help the students make the most of their time in the university.
“First of all, you need to polish your language skills. Then, be approachable and always keep an eye on opportunities. Next, you need to try your best to expand your network by utilizing LinkedIn and enroll in an internship program. Believe me, these lists will benefit you in the long run, especially for your future career,” noted Anastasia.
“If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a multinational company, once you have done the to-do list, you have to further equip yourself with the required skills that match the needs of your dream company. Being able to communicate in English fluently is a must for you to be able to work together in a company with talents from different countries. What’s more, having an energetic personality and eagerness to learn will be a great advantage if you wish to land a career in a multinational company. Last but not least, you need to be able to express your opinion to others and always take initiative to be an active team player,” Anastasia further explained.
Before the webinar ends, Anastasia shared her reasons for pursuing a career in a multinational company. For her, working in a company with talents from different countries has taught her to adapt quickly and be more agile in a face-paced and dynamic work environment. Anastasia also learned that working in a company that values diversity has helped her to be more creative and generate new ideas.
“You will meet new customers, new cultures, prominent leaders, and many other people with whom you will share brilliant ideas with. Having different cultures in your research and development team will also ensures your business stays relevant and at the forefront of the innovation,” concluded Anastasia.
