The consequences of climate change are mounting by the day, and we all must work to be a part of the solution. Forest Interactive, alongside its talents, wants to be part of the solution.
In March 2022, Forest Interactive promoted environmental sustainability through the #ReForestation campaign as part of its efforts to address planetary emergency for a greener future. Weekly internal newsletters were designed to provide an overview of climate change impacts, connect talents with local organizations, as well as share tips on how they can help tackle climate change by making responsible choices in their professional and personal lives, empowering talents to be climate changemakers.
Global Recycling Day: Turning Waste into Treasure
Today’s society generates an enormous amount of waste. Beaches across the planet share many characteristics: sand, water, ocean breezes, and even plastic. Experts predict that 2050 will be a bleak year for the ocean, as there may be more plastic than fish in the sea.
Forest Interactive’s Art Club engaged all talents in a fun, immersive activity titled “Turning Waste into Treasure” as part of the #ReForestation Campaign. By upcycling waste in creative ways, the activity aimed to raise awareness regarding the consequences of our actions on the environment and the importance of recycling.
Talents were encouraged to collect their everyday waste for a month in order to transform them into a collective art piece for Global Recycling Day on March 18, 2022. The assortment of waste material collected included plastics, bottle caps, papers, takeaway packaging, and rubber.
The underlying message behind this recycled art piece focuses on the negative impact of humans’ consumptive practices and reminders of the ongoing damage on oceans.
The completed artwork was displayed next to the recycling bins in Forest Interactive HQ to demonstrate that using waste in art not only helps eliminate waste but also sends a strong message about the benefits of conservation.
International Day of Forests: Tree Planting with Free Tree Society
Celebrated on March 21, the International Day of Forests was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. Forest Interactive believes that to truly celebrate forests, it needs to take action to protect them too.
Through a tree planting activity with Free Tree Society (FTS), volunteers had the opportunity to contribute to environmental conservation for a sustainable future. FTS facilitators also promoted the importance of planting in the city to boost biodiversity, composting at home to reduce waste in the landfill, and how to promote a love of nature.
On a sunny Friday morning, Forest Interactive talents gathered at the Taman Tugu Nursery in Kuala Lumpur to explore approximately 4km of forest trails and play their part in safeguarding the environment in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
FTS team guided volunteers on a jungle walk with talks on ecosystem, climate conservation, environmental solutions, a planting workshop, and nursery management. Besides, all volunteers participated in hands-on activities such as transplanting tree seedlings, propagation, fertilizing, watering the plants, as well as pest control.
The #ReForestation campaign hit United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13, 14, and 15: Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life On Land.
It is not too late to make a difference. If we all do our bit, we can greatly reduce the impacts of climate change.
