KUALA LUMPUR: Forest Group of Companies’ women leaders continue to call for women empowerment at the workplace, across all levels, at gender equality-focused speaking engagements with LeadWomen and United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Sri Lanka, respectively, last month.

Sharon Maurenn, Co-Founder & CEO of Wallet Codes, and Nen Lin Soo, Group Communications Manager at Forest Interactive, spoke at gender equality-driven sharing sessions, to opine and put forth experiences about women empowerment, including the narrative reality surrounding specific women population, situations, challenges, and strides.

Both speakers, in their respective sessions with LeadWomen and UNGC Sri Lanka, highlighted the development of empowering women in the workplace, elevating women leaders, and promoting gender equality in communities.

As the CEO for an established digital platform Wallet Codes, Sharon’s involvement in LeadWomen’s panel session was a part of its Emerging Women Leaders (EWL) program. Held on August 23, 2022, in line with the program’s objective to help women leaders build leadership skills, Sharon offered up her experiences leading Wallet Codes, talking about the challenges faced as a leader and the support received by her peers in decision making.

Sharon also shared the importance of being fully equipped with precise information and facts so the team can fully trust your decisions as a leader.

“It was hard for me to really communicate with everyone, but the most important thing is for you to do a lot of readings and to get your facts right and to stand up for yourself, especially when it comes to leading a meeting, you have to have a lot of data,” said Sharon, about her first experiences as a leader during her 12 years with the company.

On the other hand, Nen Lin’s presentation during the 9th Meeting of the Gender & Diversity Working Group by UNGC Sri Lanka on August 24, saw her speaking about the initiative and efforts the Forest Group of Companies has established in regard to raising awareness and proactively preventing workplace harassment, especially through the #ItEndsNow campaign.

“We started doing pre-campaign and pre-event surveys of our talents to really gauge their needs, their interests, and causes that most matter to them. We now also conduct quarterly internal communications and audits to provide a space, an additional avenue for talents, to share their feedback about existing campaigns and initiatives, as well as topics and ideas that matter to most of them,” commented Nen.

Nen also highlighted how every employee in Forest Interactive plays a part in shaping a sustainable work culture because of how everyone would follow suit and take the messages regarding workplace harassment seriously, which also help form better allies.

Forest Interactive and its related entities continue to work towards hitting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Gender Equality, with more than 60% of its senior leadership team comprising of women.
