According to GSMA Intelligence, by Q4 2020 the average number of mobile internet users in the world was at 77% of total subscribers. 4G connection has yet to reach its peak but at the same time, 5G connection is starting to grow, now at 3%.
China is still the leading market when it comes to 5G network adoption. As reported by RCR Wireless, as of October 2020, China sees more than 150 million devices connected to the new network. Many observe that the market’s 4G connectivity is peaking hence slowing down and transitioning to 5G. Other than 4G, the number of mobile internet users is almost peaking as well. On the latest market report by GSMA Intelligence, it’s mentioned that mobile internet user growth is slowing down as it began to saturate further.
China’s biggest competitor – the US – is also fast in adopting the new 5G network. Accumulating up to 3% of the connection, the market is predicted to accelerate 5G adoption growth this year in 2021. As for Europe, the demand for 5G is growing and the coverage is expanding as well. However, adoption for 5G remains to lag behind Asian markets but is still gradually building up.
