In 2020, the mobile industry in Latin America (LATAM) has been helping to sustain social and economic activities during the pandemic. Mobile operators have reported an approximately 25% increase in mobile data surge during the lockdowns due to increase demand in connectivity.
With approximately 652 million population in LATAM, the region is a huge market with a wide range of opportunities. In 2019, the mobile technologies and services in the region contributed to 7% of the GDP – almost more than $420 billion of economic value added. Not only that, the mobile ecosystem also supported 1.4 million jobs and made contributions to the funding of the region’s public sector.
The region is expected to grow new 80 million mobile internet subscribers from 5 countries: Brazil being the highest contributor of 24 million, followed by Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru. The rest of Latin America contributed 18 million, accumulated all together. The region is looking to have great expansions and several milestones in 2022, 2023, and 2025 with 5x more mobile data consumption.
