KUALA LUMPUR: Forest Interactive reaffirms its commitment to promoting gender equality and shaping a safe, inclusive workplace. This time, through Women’s Aid Organization (WAO)’s We Pledge program for corporations.
By undertaking this pledge, the Kuala Lumpur-headquartered telecommunications solutions provider further establishes its support for equal opportunities and effective participation for women leadership across all levels of decision making.
The company is also ensuring a safe space for its female employees, one that is free from discrimination and gender stereotypes, as well as that provides equal pay for equal work. Gender equality has become a key component of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives as companies around the world seek commitment to fostering a workplace culture that develops and supports female employees.
“At Forest Interactive, we are proud to say that our efforts on increasing the balance of representation across the company have demonstrated results,” shared Johary Mustapha, Founder & CEO of Forest Interactive. “More than 60% of the senior management team are women, and the workforce comprises of 47% women. Endorsing women’s career development is something I always believe in. We want to make sure that their voices are being heard, said Johary.”
Endorsing WAO’s WePledge initiative means aligning ourselves with the same vision with WAO in empowering women at workplace. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 – Gender Equality is the core goal shared by both WAO and Forest Interactive to champion female employees in the company.
As a WePledge participant, Forest Interactive is committed to WAO’s Integrated Safe Community Initiative, grounded in the NGO’s “Safe Community” model, which is a multisectoral and holistic approach to community engagement and gender-based violence prevention.
Prior to joining WePledge, Forest Interactive had kicked off its extensive commitment to shaping a safe, inclusive workplace through its #ItEndsNow campaign. The initiative to create a harassment-free workplace has delivered awareness newsletters, fine-tuned existing policies, introduced new mechanisms to all talents, and taught employees how to be an ally.
“Our internal teams are in the process of implementing a whistleblowing policy and anti-retaliation mechanism to equip the organization in protecting against gender-based violence,” continued Johary. “So, we hope that by us taking this stand with WAO, we can inspire other companies to actively speak up on their commitment to take responsibility and not be mere bystanders.”
WePledge helps women with these initiatives:
- Social work and case management, for the betterment of women empowerment
- 24-hour crisis hotline and psychosocial support for survivors of domestic violence
- Make a change through research and public policy reform
- Shelter services and economic resilience programs for single mums
In September 2022, UN Women awarded Johary the Malaysia 2022 Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards, reaffirming our dedication in empowering and strengthening the support of women employees in Forest Interactive.
