KUALA LUMPUR: In observance of Ramadan, the holy month where Muslims around the world fast, pray, self-reflect, and uphold community well-being, Forest Interactive Foundation gives back through the 3rd iteration of #CanFeedTheHungry.
Collaborating with The Lost Food Project (TLFP), Forest Interactive Foundation donated and distributed care packs and essential food items to the B40 community residing at the People’s Housing Program (PPR) Gombak in Kuala Lumpur.
The program is a continuation of #CANFeedTheHungry, an annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative carried out to share the blessings of Ramadan with the people in need. According to The Star, the B40 community refers to household earnings below than average monthly income in Malaysia, which is RM1 to RM4,850. Post-COVID-19, Malaysians continue socioeconomic situation heavily, with the low-income communities facing food insecurity.
“Food insecurity and malnutrition are deep-rooted issues globally. UNICEF reports that progress has stalled in the pre-existing food security and nutrition issues in Asia,” Nen Lin Soo, Group Communications Manager at Forest Interactive, expressed her concern. “Through Forest Interactive Foundation CSR initiatives, we hope to do what we can collectively to end hunger and meet global nutrition targets. Collaborating with The Lost Food Project this time around allows us to also contribute, in the spirit of Ramadan, to those in need.”
In comparison to the previous year’s #CAN Feed The Hungry, where Forest Interactive Foundation partnered with Street Feeders of KL (SFOKL) to donate and distribute food packages for fellow street friends in Kuala Lumpur, this year’s contribution aimed to strategically reach out to the B40 community by providing non-perishable items that last longer such as rice, canned sardine, potatoes, sugar, and COVID-19 test kits.
Volunteers gather at the TLFP warehouse to pack essential food items before distribution to the PPR Gombak residence.
While aligning the focus to observing Ramadan, Forest Interactive also looked at prioritizing its talents’ positive well-being by initiating department iftar (breaking fast) events to strengthen the talents’ bond across the organization.
Forest Interactive, through its Foundation, wishes to continuously fulfil its corporate strategy by aligning it to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); particularly on the global movement to achieve Zero Hunger (2).
