Every entrepreneur starts somewhere. For Johary Mustapha, Founder & CEO of Forest Interactive, his entrepreneurial journey first started in 2006. Guided by a vision to establish a company that would be an integral part of the mobile tech ecosystem, “Forest” describes the ecosystem, while “Interactive” refers to the tech nature of the business. This, was in Malaysia. Then in 2010, the company expanded to Indonesia, working out of a small office space in Jakarta under the local entity PT Forest Indo Niaga (FIN), with big dreams. The founding team had a mission of bridging the gap between mobile operators and their subscribers in Indonesia.

After the initial years of building trust, security, and reliability in our products in the Indonesian mobile landscape, in 2014, we introduced Bulk SMS services connectivity to overseas partners. Making our mark globally and being inclusive with our offerings were part of our goals, after all. The next year in 2015, FIN expanded its mobile portfolio, providing games services to Telkomsel & XL Axiata and connecting with aggregators in Indonesia for mobile content subscription services such as Main Game and GamesPro.

As the mobile operator solutions and content subscription services grew, FIN established a creative studio in Bandung. In the same year, as a solid recognition of the impact FIN has had in Indonesia so far, the company received a content provider license from Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia to connect directly with mobile network operators in Indonesia. We also partnered with Omnisport – Perform Group for sports content. Little did we know that this partnership would forecast a future with esports years later.

In 2017, we successfully tied partnerships with four major telco operators in Indonesia – XL Axiata, Indosat Ooredoo, Smartfren, and 3 Indonesia. In 2018, we collaborated with Nagaswara, SapaMuslim, SCM Records, Musica Studio, Melon Indonesia, and other record labels to distribute content from top Indonesian artists such as Fitri Carlina, Siti Badriah, Baby Shima, and more. Wallet Codes and BayarIN were also established to partner with companies such as Midtrans, Xendit, e-GHL, Zepetto, Megaxus, Blackhawk, DANA, and Doku. This was our official foray into the esports industry and the fintech space.

Our expertise has allowed us to be efficient partners that are needed by mobile operators and content providers alike. The Forest Interactive global culture, which champions creativity and innovation, attracted talents to the Indonesian office as well.

In 2019, we moved our Jakarta office to Bendungan Hilir Raya to accommodate more people in our space. Having transformed from just a tech solutions company to an end-to-end technology company by bringing elfo’s and Primary Guard’s services to Indonesia, this year in 2020, on our 10th anniversary, we are rebranding to become Forest Interactive Indonesia. Today, we are officially the second largest Forest Interactive office in the world, empowering Indonesia’s digital transformation and playing a part in uplifting the nation’s standing in the international mobile landscape.
