Kuala Lumpur 13 August 2019 —Erican College, alongside major sponsor Forest Interactive, recently held a symposium for the blind. The event, entitled “Touch, Feel, and Hear: Seeing the World Beyond Sight,” was held on 13 August 2019, at Erican College in Kuala Lumpur.

The event—which hopes to shine a light on Malaysia’s visually impaired—was conducted in partnership with the Malaysian Association of the Blind (MAB).

The Malaysian Association of the Blind works hand-in-hand with other Malaysian associations for the visually impaired in order to provide training, education, and support for blind Malaysians across the states.

Present at the event were Vasanthakumaren Seri Ramaloo, Assistant Head of Academic for Erican College as well as students and faculty of Erican College. Other invited guests were George Thomas, General Manager for the Malaysian Association of the Blind and Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR for Forest Interactive.

“We might still wonder what should we do if we see visually impaired people crossing the street? This campaign opened our eyes that impaired visual people are our friends and offer our hands to help. We are glad this program is initiated by 19-20-year-olds Erican College students. There is no reason not to support this movement,” said Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR for Forest Interactive.

“We believe that this event will empower the blind,” Vasanthakumaren said during his welcome speech. “We hope that after today they believe not in differentiability but different ability.” He goes onto say that this project goes hand in hand with Erican College’s goal to give students—both seeing and blind—a holistic education.

Apart from the speeches given by invited lecturers, a video produced by Erican College students was shown. Different handicrafts and products made by the Malaysian Association of the Blind’s were also showcased during the event.

Forest Interactive also supports education in tech programs by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) such as Level Up @ Schools and Kre8tif @ Schools initiatives. Those programs support talented, yet less fortunate and/or disabled students in the fields of digital creative industry.
