JAKARTA – Siti Mahdaria, Media Relations Executive at Forest Interactive Indonesia, speaks about career development at Binus Festival Malang, a virtual webinar organized by Binus University.
Titled ‘What is The Best Company for Your Career?’, Siti Mahdaria, or more friendly known as Ria, also shares her journey in pursuit of finding a company that best suit for her career goals with the final year students, aiming to provide them with an insight on picking the right company based on their career expectation and ways to get there.
Ria highlighted three important career-building aspects to focus on — career goals, criteria for the best company, and ways to determine the right career.
“As a job seeker, we have to know our career goals, both personally and professionally. For me, I prioritize a workplace that can provide me with personal growth, an opportunity to give a 100% contribution, and a chance to leave a legacy,” explained Ria.
On deciding the best workplace, Ria also pointed out that there are a few criteria noted by Glassdoor for Employers (2021) worth considering. “Those criteria include overall company rating, career opportunities, compensation and benefit, culture and values, senior management, work-life balance, recommendation, and six-month business outlook.”
Acknowledging graduate’s struggles in finding, not only the best company to work at but also the suitable career options, Ria discussed the tips from Biomed Badass. “There are 7 steps, which can be further classified into 3 different phases. First off, the Establishment phase. During this phase, students or graduates should establish their core values and understand their strengths and weaknesses. Once manifested, you may next identify what role best suits you and matches your values and strengths.”
“The second phase is called Research phase — a phase where you will explore possible options and network with people in that industry. Lastly, the Consolidation phase. This is a phase where you are getting more practical, and that is to create a career plan. The plan should prepare you in facing competitive applications, which may lead you to landing an exciting opportunity,” said Ria.
Ria further accentuated that people tend to keep changing their mind on the options they want to choose during the Research phase, and that it is totally fine. “Just keep in mind, once you have decided to pursue a different path, you will need to redo all the said steps, like networking in the relevant industry,” noted Ria.
In her closing remark, Ria shared her interview experience at Forest Interactive and its fun recruitment process. She mentioned the importance of being authentic and honest with the interviewer. “It’s crucial for us to stay true to ourselves, even in an interview, because the interviewer can recognize if we are lying to impress,” concluded Ria.
Binus Festival Malang is a series of event which includes expo, webinar, and gals-assignment for Binus students. The webinar was moderated by Nur Kholis.
