KUALA LUMPUR: Forest Interactive is awarded second runner-up for the Community Engagement & Partnerships category at UN Women 2021 Malaysia Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards. Additionally, it is also shortlisted as a finalist for the Gender-Inclusive Workplace category.
Organized by WeEmpowerAsia, a UN Women program funded by and in partnership with the European Union, and LeadWomen, the award recognizes businesses that champion gender equality and women’s empowerment within their industry, in an effort towards women’s economic empowerment.
“We are truly honored to be selected as second runner-up for this prestigious award, and to be recognized for our community outreach and sustainability efforts,” said Johary Mustapha, CEO of Forest Interactive. “I’m grateful to have a fantastic team that contributed to us being acknowledged. We came from humble beginnings, and looking at the great companies on this list, it shows that we are doing today what we could have only dreamt before; and most importantly, have it recognized.”
The category for Community Engagement and Partnerships is given to companies that show excellent promotion of gender equality through community engagement and partnerships. This includes CSR or philanthropy events for community engagement, and advocacy of third-party programs for partnerships.
Gender-Inclusive Workplace is the management of a company in delivering a healthy workspace environment that satisfy basic needs of both sexes which includes flexibility in work hours and equal pay.
“As a company that’s one of the first in Malaysia to be a part of the Women’s Empowerment Principles signatory, this award is recognition of our ongoing commitment to implement gender equality practices in our workforce, while encouraging others to do the same,” continued Johary.
The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) by UN Women aims to focus on the development of gender equality in the workforce for women. The annual WEP Award ceremony is created as a celebration of private sector companies in their management and application of good practices towards their talents that are aligned with Women’s Empowerment Principles. Its main objective is to exemplify the good practices and encourage more businesses to follow suit.
“Each of us has a support chair but not all of us have the privilege to be heard,” noted Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR at Forest Interactive, during a breakout session at the award ceremony. “A lot of girls and women who are smart and hardworking do not get the opportunities we often take for granted.”
“Here at Forest Interactive, we have launched initiatives that promote growth for women in a male-dominated industry,” continued Sheena. “Ask Us Anything is one of those initiatives where we give the voice for our women in office to open up with stories and discussions that would be barely visible before in our industry.”
