Forest Interactive Shares Cutting Edge Insights at MEF CONNECTS

By January 31, 2024April 25th, 2024No Comments

KUALA LUMPUR: Forest Interactive actively participated in the MEF CONNECTS Mobile Content and Payments event, a gathering of stakeholders from the Content & Advertising and Payments industries across Southeast Asia. Organized by the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF), one of the biggest mobile and payments organizations in Asia, the event was held last January 11th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Forest Interactive Head of Product Yoseph Wijaya represented the company in the discussions involving topics on trust, security, customer support excellence, monetization, how to best engage with your customers, and the impact of increasing regulation in the industry. His panel “The Future of Content Monetisation on Mobile” was conducted together with MEF Programme Manager Ross Flynn and Dialogue Media Head of Sales Bram Gumilar. The session between industry leaders addressed the challenges and opportunities shaping the landscape.

Key Takeaways

Innovations in Content Monetization

Emphasizing content quality enhancement, Yoseph urged aligning it with market needs and preferences with examples like exploring TikTok and Instagram Live for effective content monetization. He advised moving away from traditional one-way communication channels due to changing audience expectations and an increase in social media adoption.  According to the research done by Meltwater and We Are Social, Malaysians have turned to social media for everything, from news to entertainment.  With a total population of 34.13 million, 96.8% are connected online on the internet.

Success of Bundling in Malaysia and Indonesia

Responding to inquiries about bundling or selling two or more products as one combined product or service package, Yoseph shared success stories of bundling in Southeast Asia, citing examples like cloud gaming with high-speed 5G data packages (e.g. YES 5G with GeForce NOW and CelcomDigi with Blacknut). While this is true, it is important to note that infrastructure should align with content technology. For example, video streaming is feasible for countries with limited internet capabilities as it does not require internet speeds and latency as fast as cloud gaming.

Balancing Freemium Models for Premium Features

Addressing the challenge of balancing freemium models which are basic features offered free of charge while more advanced offerings must be paid for, Yoseph advocated for the continued effectiveness of freemium strategies. He proposed implementing targeted freemium, tailoring content offerings based on user preferences to enhance the freemium experience for diverse user segments.

According to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the digital economy contributed 23.2% of the country’s gross domestic product in 2022 and is estimated to contribute 25.5% of GDP by 2025 under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint. Aligned with this goal, Forest Interactive remains committed to delivering relevant digital products and services to its customers in the Content & Advertising and Payments industries.
