KUALA LUMPUR: Forest Interactive announces its recognition as one of the 14 companies committed to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Forward Faster Initiative for Climate Action, in Malaysia. This recognition was conferred at the SBTi & Climate Symposium 2024, held on June 11, 2024, at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre – CCEC in Kuala Lumpur.
Themed “From Climate Pledges to Action” the SBTi & Climate Symposium 2024 broadened its focus beyond the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to encompass broader climate action. The event served as a catalyst for accelerated climate action, highlighting its potential to drive innovation and growth. Leveraging the SBTi as a systemic approach and credible pathway to emissions reduction, the symposium provided a platform for stakeholders to develop strategies contributing to a resilient and low-carbon economy.
The symposium kicked off with a fireside chat titled ‘A Just Transition for Malaysia Towards a National Climate Change Act’, featuring Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainability, Malaysia, and moderated by Julie Amoroso-Garbin, Regional Lead of UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Center for Asia Pacific.
This was followed by the Forward Faster for Climate Action launch, which commemorated the 14 signatory organizations committed to taking action on the ambitious, SDG-related targets in Malaysia.
“Forest Interactive’s commitment to the UNGC Forward Faster Initiative reflects our proactive stance on sustainability. Although not yet mandated, we firmly believe in taking accountable and actionable steps towards climate action,” says Johary Mustapha, Founder and CEO of Forest Interactive. “By voluntarily declaring our commitments and outlining our actions to achieve set targets, we demonstrate unwavering dedication to responsible corporate citizenship.
Forest Interactive is dedicated to Target 2: Contributing to a just transition by implementing concrete actions that address the social impacts of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. We achieve this through collaboration with workers, unions, communities, and suppliers.
This recognition at the SBTi & Climate Symposium 2024 underscores our belief in the pivotal role businesses play in addressing climate change. We are proud to lead by example, driving initiatives to expedite climate action, foster innovation, and contribute to building a resilient, low-carbon economy.
Forest Interactive, as an early adopter of the UNGC Forward Faster Initiative, enhances accountability and transparency by urging companies to publicly declare their commitments and outline the actions they will take to achieve their set targets. Those committing to these targets will be mandated to report on their progress annually to the UNGC.
