A Mooncake Goes A Long Way

Mid-Autumn Festival may not suffice without indulging in mooncakes. Forest Interactive took a unique turn this year by collaborating with the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia. The beneficiaries of this collaboration were residents of En Yuan Old Folk Home and PJ Old Folks in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

As Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration where families and friends express gratitude and appreciation towards one another, Forest Interactive saw the opportunity to lend a hand to NKF through its annual mooncake charity project, which aims to raise funds by selling Oversea mooncakes.

Funds raised through the annual mooncake charity project would go to the organization’s kidney failure patients of underprivileged backgrounds. Forest Interactive paid it forward by purchasing the delectable mooncakes and donating them to the aforementioned old folks’ homes, for the residents to enjoy them together.

This initiative is part of Forest Interactive’s commitment to sustainable actions and in promoting community well-being. “As NKF relies on public generosity and corporate funding to provide affordable treatment to their patients from the lower-income group, it was important for us to be a part of this project,” said Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR at Forest Interactive. “While we wanted to gift the mooncakes purchased to the residents of the old folks’ home, in keeping with the spirit of the festival we also gifted them to mobile operator partners in Malaysia to express our gratitude.”

According to Chua Hong Wee, Chief Executive Officer of NKF Malaysia, the foundation has been trying its best to help its patients get their treatments subsidized. However, it has been relatively highly challenging to do so during the global pandemic.

On the other hand, the old folks’ homes were selected based on the consideration of it being a non-profit organization, and well… for love!

Forest Interactive’s commitment to support and care for the communities is ingrained in the company’s culture and will always be a priority. Simultaneously, Forest Interactive managed to hit the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 of Good Health & Wellbeing in creating a positive impact on society.
