When it comes to an update for 5G, Asia-Pacific is still leading with the deployment and adoption rates, ahead of other regions. Most of the 5G standalone (SA) deployments have taken place in this region. China has reported more than 200 million 5G subscribers to date as of January 2021. Though the infographic attached is not including China’s data, the region is still leading. South Korea has approximately 8.7 million 5G users which consist of up to 14% of the population’s total subscribers, making them the market leader in the region.
As of Q4 of 2020, Asia-Pacific (excluding China) has 15 mobile operators in 8 different markets that launched 5G, bringing the total number of commercial 5G networks in the region to a total of 23 across 11 markets. South Korea, Japan, and Australia are the leaders, supported by early spectrum auctions, device availability, and operator-friendly regulations across the market. The consumers in the market are also confident about 5G, pushing the adoption even further.
